Book of the month for March is El Deafo by Cece Bell, a beautifully illustrated graphic novel about Cece's own childhood. At the age of four she became deaf as a result of meningitis and often retreated into her imagination as "El Deafo" the superhero. This book cleverly opens up the inner turmoils of school, friendships and young love but also the specific challenges she faced as a deaf child. This book was recommended to me by a student at the university. I love to hear about the books that people are enjoying and the ones that work well in placement classes.
